Spiro, an electric mobility company, has appointed Auroasish Choudhuri as its new Managing Director for West and Central Africa, strengthening its leadership team as the company enters a phase of rapid expansion. The announcement follows a recent $270 million funding round and signals a push to accelerate the region’s shift away from petrol-powered two-wheelers. According to a statement seen by Technext, the company is building an integrated ecosystem that combines electric motorcycles with a battery-swapping network, allowing riders to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones in minutes.
Auroasish Choudhuri will report to Mobility CEO Kaushik Burman, tasked with strengthening the mobility business as operations ramp up and new markets open. He brings more than two decades of international automotive leadership experience across Africa, Asia, Central and South America. Before joining Spiro, he served as Chief Executive Officer of DAG Industries, leading the business across Nigeria and Benin. Earlier in his career, he held senior regional leadership roles at TVS Motor, where he managed operations in Central and South America, and worked at Escorts Kubota, overseeing international sales and business development across the United States, Latin America, West Asia, and Sri Lanka.

The company has been active recently, hiring former General Motors program engineering manager Huy Chieu as Chief Development Officer (CDO) less than a month ago. Chieu brings nearly three decades of experience in vehicle engineering, product development, manufacturing, and supply chain management to support the company’s growth.

Speaking about the appointment, Spiro Group CEO Anant Badjatya noted that Choudhuri’s experience would be a strong asset as the company scales across the continent. “Auroasish brings extensive experience in growing and transforming automotive businesses across some of the world’s most dynamic markets. His deep understanding of the sector, combined with his track record in market expansion and operational leadership, will be a strong asset as we continue to scale Spiro across Africa,” Badjatya said.

Choudhuri joins the company at a critical time. Spiro currently has more than 130,000 electric motorcycles on the road and has completed over 50 million battery swaps. As the firm continues to build the infrastructure and local capabilities needed for its next phase, the leadership shuffle reflects the intense competition for talent in Africa’s emerging EV sector. While the company focuses on expanding its service network, the rapid pace of hiring suggests a strategy to lock in expertise before the market becomes saturated.
In his statement, Choudhuri emphasized his commitment to the region. “Africa is entering an exciting new phase in the transformation of mobility.
